Teaching philosophy

Through The Looking Glass

When I attended Jr. and Sr. high school I was fortunate enough to have several teachers that were more interested in who I was and what I was capable of becoming, than what I looked like of where I lived. These champions of the chalk boards guided me in the ways of the books, and helped me onto the path of knowledge and wisdom. I now wish to do the same for today’s youth.
I believe that a teacher’s role is to inspire their students to reach their full potential, to reach for the stars. Teachers are not babysitters for children while their parents are at work; they are motivators, councilors, mediators, sympathizers, disciplinarians, in general they are to their students Jacks of all trades. Teacher should guide their students, not force them. Teachers should respect their, and in turn command respect from them. Teachers should be strict yet somewhat flexible, intuitive, and not overbearing. Teachers should be friendly with, but never friends whit the students. A teacher’s job is to help mold students into not just useful members of society, but also builders of the new world ahead.
I believe it to be very important for teacher to introduce technology into the classroom. In today’s world technology is everywhere, and if we expect our students to keep up with, let alone lead, they need to not only know about technology, but be proficient in its use. If today’s youth does not keep up with new and innovative technology, they will be lost in tomorrow’s world.
In my classroom I would make use of the internet to show what’s out there and the endless possibilities of what may be accomplished, where what they learn might take them. I would use tools of the scientific community to perk the interests, and curiosities of my students.
By introducing technology into the classroom, I intend to open new horizons for my students. I want them to see new things, thereby opening their mind to endless possibilities. Once their curiosity is peeked, there is no telling what they may accomplish.

My name is Clayton Spence, I enjoy cooking, my wife, grand-children, and electric trains. I'm not really fond of cats or tight spaces. I hope that I do well this semester. Sorry there's not more, but I don't like talking about my self.
